Become Part of the Alliance!
Spaces & Places: Where We Create has been developed by  Magdalena Karlick, ATR, LPAT, LPCC (Southwestern College) and Gretchen Miller, MA, ATR-BC (Art Therapy Alliance) to invite art therapists, art therapy students, expressive arts therapists, and art organizations to submit a photo of their creative work space and favorite tools of the trade.

Through social media and digital photo sharing on Facebook, Flickr, and Instagram, this collaborative project aims to provide education, awareness, inspiration, and understanding about the spaces & places, settings, populations, and materials that the art therapy community works in and uses within their practice.

How to participate in Spaces & Places: Where We Create

  • Download the project's Official Photo Submission Guidelines here.  Learn more about the categories of photos this project is looking for and where to e-mail them.  Photos for this project from art therapists, art therapy students, expressive arts therapists, and art organizations are being accepted until May 31, 2012.

  • Once you have submitted your photos, fill out this quick survey.  Your feedback will help provide additional information to the project about how your space(s) are set up, how you feel about your space(s) and what you would change if you could. Results from this feedback will be shared with the Art Therapy Alliance community at the conclusion of the project.

  • If you are an iPhone user, download the free app Instagram and share your Spaces and Places: Where We Create photos on the go by adding the hashtag #wherewecreate in your photo caption.  You can also use and follow the #wherewecreate hashtag on Twitter.

  • A discussion group has been created for participants and supporters of this project on The Art Therapy Alliance's Flickr who are interested in having a dedicated space to exchange more ideas and conversation about this project and photos that have been submitted.
